About Me

I’m 25 years old business tourism graduate from Southern Finland (yes, the country where Nokia was born and the home country of Angry Birds, Santa Claus and Moomins)  who has been wandering in the world of snail mail since 2001. I’ve had Finnish pen pals since 2001, foreign pals since 2009 and I started Postcrossing back in 2009 when the most cards were sent from Finland (a bit over 600,000 and not WAY over 2,000,000).

My goal is to share my ideas and thoughts about this lovely yet, at times, frustrating hobby. I want to share bits and pieces of my experiences and hear what other pen pallers and Postcrossers think about the same subjects!

I’m often open for swaps and now and then take new pen pals so leave me a comment with your email and I’ll get back to you if I get the chance to 🙂
Working full-time is keeping me rather busy 🙂

  2. I love letter writing! This was my hobby when I was a kid and in my teenage years. What an excellent way to archive your memories on a blog! New friends can also be found via blogging.

    • Thank you for the message 🙂 I checked your blog and started following it immediately! 🙂 Love what I saw! 😉
I probably need to wait until the end of December before I’ll email you as I’m rather busy with assignments and starting my thesis 🙂

      • You’re welcome– us pen pal/bloggers about pen pals need to stick together! Take your time with your email, but just know if/when we do write each other I’d be more than happy to write you first 🙂

      • I totally agree with you! 🙂
I’d email you right now if I’d know for sure that you wouldn’t have to wait for the reply for weeks or a month.. I’m in a way doing the final assignments and taking final exams before internship and thesis writing so I’m REALLY busy and haven’t written any letters for over 2 (nearly 3) weeks! 😦

  3. Hello!
I am leaving this comment to compliment you for this beautiful blog and your initiative of penpalling.
I’ve started penpalling when I was 14 years old and I have the best memories of the experience of writing to people around the globe. It was also very important for me to see the benefits of learning English and the opportunities it could provide me.
Like Kate (who also has a very cool blog, btw) I’d like to talk more and possibly exchange addresses. You can write me at online.pals@yahoo.com
Good bye for now and keep up your excellent work.

  4. Hi! 🙂

I’m new to PenPalling and your blog! I love it so far; something good to look forward to in the mail! 🙂 Can’t wait for the Washi Tape and some stickers and postcards to arrive that I ordered. All the envelopes I see on various blogs look amazing! I don’t know if I can be that creative but I can’t wait to try! 🙂

  5. Hey kristiinal
Your blog is amazing so informative, I just starting Postcrossing a few months back and it feels like Christmas every time I get a postcard. So glad I came across your website! Let me know incase you want to do a swap with a girl from United Arab Emirates!
Will be in Finland next week though incase you need any goodies.

  6. I have never even thought about penpalling (email/snail) or post swapping, what a great idea and great way to connect with people all over the world! I am a 27 year old woman from Northern California. If you or anyone is interested in postcard swapping/email or snail mailing I can be emailed at ashleypontes@hotmail.com.

  7. Hi All,
I’m new in this so if anyone wants to be a PenPal, I’d be obliged because its an exciting activity.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Irfan

  8. Hi Kristiina, I am absolutely in love with your blog and after reading only a few of your posts, I found out that we have a lot of simularities and share opinions on lots of things. I won’t go into details here but I’d love to exchange emails with you and maybe snail mail later on? Please contact me at snoiecfan@live.com if you’re interested 🙂

  9. I’m so happy that I found your blog! I just read your post on how you store your letters etc., and I thought it was brilliant. It also makes me itch to go out and get some more pretty stationary… 🙂 I’m brand new to penpalling (just got my first letter!) and I actually have a question for you if you don’t mind: do you photocopy your own letters before you send them out, so you don’t forget what you’ve written to each pal? I’m about to send my first letter and I want to do this right. 🙂 Thanks!

    • Too bad the blog has been more or less dead for a year as I have an older blog that’s my main focus and I post most often to Instagram :/
I never photocopy my letters (too much work) and usually remember quite well what I wrote on my last letter, if not, I might repeat myself but so far it hasn’t been a problem with any of my pals 🙂 Besides I’m currently studying in Asia so I don’t even own a scanner or have one anywhere near me 😛
Welcome to the Penpalling community! 🙂

      • That’s okay, there’s still lots of great back-content for me to read! 😀

Thanks for the welcome and for weighing in on the photocopying thing. I’ve decided that photocopying might take time away from actually writing, and I don’t want that! So I’ll skip it and see how it goes. 🙂

  10. Hi! Greetings from sunny Sri Lanka! I stumbled upon your blog through another blog and I was fascinated by all those pictures of letters, postcards, stamps, sticker packs and letter writing sets! I have a collection myself which I’m hoping to sort out as soon as I’m done with my semester exams. I’ve had the privilege of making some really nice pen pals thanks to Letternet (So sad they had to take it down! 😦 ) and Postcrossing. https://www.postcrossing.com/user/ChaiP You can have a look at my profile.
I’ll leave my email address here as well as I’d love to hear back from you 🙂

    Have a nice day 🙂

  11. Loved this blog – Thank you for sharing your world of penpalling. Great advice and tips – especially loved the list of things penpals dislike – so true. Not sure if you realise but there is a dedicated snail mail website at http://www.GlobalPenfriends.com where you can find Real snail mail pals.. It really is the best.

  12. Dear Kristiina, I just stumbled upon your blog yesterday, and have been inspired ever since. Such an honest, thoughtful and creative work of art in a world of short messaging and haste….Have not been able to find your other blog, could you help me here?

  13. Dear Kristiina, accidentally, I stumbled upon your beautiful blog, and I am so glad I did. Inspiring, creative and beautiful in a world that seems to have reduced itself to online communication. Do you have another blog? I could not find it, and neither your account on Interpals, can you help me there? I would love to get in touch. Watm regards from freezing Berlin, Anja

    • Hey Anja!
I am terribly sorry for the time it has taken me to reply. Right now the other blog is a bit dead but I have been thinking of reviving this one asap. 🙂 Life is hectic as it is Christmas time and I work double the hours I normally do, and there is a move coming up soon but snail mail is still close to my heart and a dear hobby of mine. My Interpals account is Wish4Eternity (visit the site maybe once or twice a month), easiest way to contact me is via Instagram (@lilylilkay) or via these comments. 🙂
